What is a stronghold? A stronghold is a false idea that we have in our minds that is out of alignment with the word of God. There are many examples of these that many of us have inside of our minds right now, that the enemy uses to create spiritual blindness, spiritual deafness, hardness of heart, or other negative spiritual consequences which make it impossible for us to do the will of God.
In order to gain true freedom from the attacks of the enemy on our lives, we have to break down these strongholds one false idea at a time. Then, and only then, will we be able to realize the fullness of God’s love and peace in our lives and be able to bear the type of spiritual fruit that we are called to bear as children of God.
Paul talks about this in II Corinthians 10:
For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. And we are ready to punish any disobedience, once your obedience is complete.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Jesus even warns us in Matthew about the dangers of not taking care of these strongholds inside of us:
“Be on your guard against false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves. You’ll recognize them by their fruit. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.
Yes, even we, who love God with all of our hearts can come to others dressed in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly be ravaging wolves. It isn’t until we love God with all of our hearts, all of our MINDS, and all of our souls, that we are able to fully bear the fruits of the Spirit.
God also reminds us not to be wise in our own eyes, to trust in the Lord, and in ALL OUR WAYS, make God known and He will direct our paths:
‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. ‘
This is a part of that. God helped us start to get free from these strongholds by creating a simple tool for writing down our own ideas and comparing them with the word of God.
Freely we received, freely we give to you.
