6 Specific Things We Praise God For From Our 40 Day Isaiah 58 Fast

Yesterday was officially the last day of the Isaiah 58 fast that God called us to start all the way back on August 30th of this year. What a transformative period of time it was. I just wanted to take time to praise God and thank Him for what He did during this fast in my life.

If this is your first time hearing about our fast, you can read more about it here. The premise behind the fast was that only the Holy Spirit can lead us properly to fulfill the Fast from Isaiah 58: 6 – 12, which is the only fast that I’m aware of in the Bible that God actually said he has chosen:

'“ Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am. ’ “If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.'

Isaiah 58:6-12

Things WE Thank God For from the fast

  1. The focus that the fast allowed us to practice more diligently.

This is a big one. God has really been calling Lindsey and I to stop focusing so much on what is going on in the world, and stay laser-focused on what God says in His word. I definitely wasn’t perfect at it, but I learned so clearly that when I am focused on God’s Word, focused on listening for the Holy Spirit’s calling, and focused on the fundamentals of applying God’s Word in every situation, the peace that God gives as a result of this is something that I believe is the closest thing to Heaven that we’ll find on earth, until the fullness of the Kingdom is realized on the earth.

2. The voice and revelations that God shared with us during the period.

I don’t believe that this has as much to do with the fast, as much as it has to do with making this fast a daily walk and experiencing the fruits of walking in it, but I could hear God’s voice more clearly during the entire fast. When I would get distracted, God’s voice was clear enough to re-focus my efforts and point me back in the right direction quickly.

I really can’t explain to you how important this has been for me. We are bombarded with a plethora of other things we can focus with, but the Truth is that God is bigger than all of it. We can get lost in the web of our own understanding of the world and the events around us when we allow our eyes to be fixed on it. This can cause a tremendous amount of anxiety, but God’s voice brings clarity and it did for me in these moments, it brought me back to the peace of knowing who is in control.

3. New Friendships Made and Relationships Restored

Throughout the past few years, I have been praying diligently that God would help bring the right types of people into my life who are willing to walk with us in the journey that He’s called us to. If you’re not fully aware of our journey, God has called us out from the lives we were leading before. He asked us to leave our employment and to fully focus on Him in order to bring about what He has for us. This happened over a series of years, that this call has became more clear, but it’s essentially the exact opposite of what we were living before.

Both of us had very well paying jobs with marketing firms that we helped build or had a major part in running. I was very focused on what I could do by the labor of my own hands, I wanted to be the chief provider, I also had a pretty hefty drinking habit that I used to help quell my anxieties about the pressure that mounts from that way of thinking.

God called us away from that to literally fully focus on the visions he had spoken to us and this requires full reliance on God in the truest sense of Matthew 6:33,

'But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. '

Matthew 6:33

This has been an incredibly humbling experience for me. I went from being the one who builds companies and takes care of himself, to having to fully surrender everything and rely on God’s provision to take care of the family God has given us. Through the faithful hearts of family and friends and even miracles that God has done in our lives with our situation, He has done exactly what He said he would.

I say all of this, because it’s very hard to live this way in today’s society. The first question most people ask when you’re meeting them is “What do you do [to make your money].” When we say that we follow what God is telling us to do and rely on His provision, it’s just not something that many can fully relate to.

God has helped introduce us to like-minded individuals, who though they are on different paths than we are, have shown what God is ultimately able to do if we remain faithful to the calling and it has brought a lot of hope.

During this fast, He introduced us to a farm in Ohio called, Kingdom Fish and we had the opportunity to meet with them and see how God had worked with them to bring about the vision that He called Don and Lisa to 16 years ago. They are also going to be helpful in helping fulfill the vision that God has given us.

Additionally, he has helped restore previous friendships and build them in new ways that are aligned as well. God is good!

4. God’s Call for America to Repent Reverberates

One of the things that God has made abundantly clear during the last few years of our work, is truly just how far America has fallen from the precepts that she was founded under. We have taken a blessing that God has given us, and have not stewarded over it properly, and indeed have committed many terrible acts that people are still feeling today.

There are many, but the two most on our hearts is the way that we have treated the Native tribal nations people who took us in and taught us to survive. We’ve repaid them good with evil repeatedly.

We also took a race of people, forced them to become our slaves, and have kept them still in a cycle of oppression, poverty, and bondage that is simply not right and we’re seeing this in our streets flow over still today.

With these groups of God’s children, we sinned even more greatly because many of these acts have been done while we used the name of God to justify the actions. This is the deepest blasphemy and arrogance that exists.

We are the wealthiest nation on planet earth and yet we still have people who don’t have food to eat. This is unacceptable and has enslaved millions into a cycle of poverty that is impossible for them to fully recover from, despite the limited resources we’ve tried to put towards this issue.

During this period, God had a few major events that took place to call America to repentance and ask for God’s mercy on us over them.

Jonathon Cahn had a national day of prayer and repentance in Washington DC on September 26, 2020. Watch the replay below.

God called us to make a video about the Spiritual State of America and Repentance a few days later on September 30, 2020, the night after the Presidential Debate. While I won’t call this a major moment for the nation, it was from the Holy Spirit and He did call us to make it so it was a God moment for repentance. You can watch this video below:

Carter Conlon led a prayer for repentance at Plymouth on October 6, 2020. This year is the 400th year of the pilgrims landing on Plymouth. This was a major event, with significant Biblical importance. You can watch this video below as well.

All of these things I am so grateful for and I am so excited to what the Holy Spirit is going to do. We must repent, but this call for Mercy from God in my opinion is one that rivals the prayer of Daniel in Daniel 9 on the 70 years of exile to Babylon.

5. The move of the Holy Spirit

God is moving, and He is bringing many things that many generations have longed to see to fruition as we speak. We must all listen closely to God, walk closely with him, and prepare ourselves for this season that we are walking into. It will be unlike any we have experienced in our lives and I firmly believe that God will begin to establish His Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven in this upcoming season.

6. The Work He’s Allowed Us to Complete on The Vision

Towards the end of this fast, God gave us a schedule to work towards on completing the very first version of the vision that He’s given us to fulfill and that we’ve been working on over the past year. Our hope, and by God’s strength and provision, the first portion of this project will be completed by the end of the month.

Praise God, and all Glory be to the one True God now and forever, Amen.

There are many additionaly things than these that God has done throughout this fast. We will never go back to how we lived before it and we’re going to continue to walk in the Spirit and being led by the Spirit in this fashion. We invite you to come along with us and experience God’s Kingdom alongside us.
