America: This is Our Burning Bush Moment

This nation was founded on the principles of God. All one needs to do is read the Declaration of Independence to see that the framers of this nation, went through every Biblical principle of pursuing change in society before God granted them the right to declare their independence.

God then used a rag-tag army against the single greatest army and navy that the world had ever known. He brought along allies to help, and God overcame and granted us independence from the oppressive system that had been enslaving the settlers of what would become the original 13 states of the United States of America.

He did this because he saw that our hearts and motives were pure. That we had followed His precepts to first apply pressure through the means of peaceful protest and petition to the governing body. He did this knowing that the heart of the movement was truly a movement that both honored God and sought to create a nation, separated from other nations, built upon God’s principles of life that would give God’s children sanctuary from the rest of the world that had already denied Him.

Throughout the course of our nation’s history following, we have failed as a nation to live up to the precepts that were inscribed in the Declaration of Independence.

Rather than seek God’s advice for how to live with those who were already here, we murdered millions of Native Americans, then forced the following generations to lose their own identity that God had given them, by stripping away all sense of identity through forced indoctrination camps.

We built a nation on the backs of enslaved Africans, murdered, beat, and tortured them, forced them to forget their own identity that God gave them, and forced them to build for our own selfish desires.

We have taken the foreigner who lives among us and treated them as second class citizens and sometimes even made them sub-human thus denying the laws of God and forcing a wedge between us and God. (Leviticus 19:34)

See Jeremiah 7:5-11 for deeper understanding and connection

We reject God’s ways, though they are free to all, we instead have made our own way, telling ourselves that we know better than God, that we can be our own God. We have allowed ourselves to be enslaved to a system that requires 40-60 hours of our time each week, just to make sure we can continue the lifestyle we have built up. Some work the same or more just to be able to keep food in their fridge and a roof over their heads.

We have forgotten the poor and not taken care of the widows or the fatherless. They grow poorer still and we make policies that are designed to keep them enslaved rather than truly free them, not just from poverty, but also to share a piece of the prosperity that fewer and fewer are experiencing these days. (Jeremiah 7:5-11)

We have rejected the Word of God and removed it from our presence, though we are taught to meditate on it day and night that our ways may be prosperous (Joshua 1:8).

We have called what is sin good and what is good evil justifying the murder of both criminals and infants as if we have a right to break the laws of God in any circumstance. Even still, if we repent, do you not know that Moses was both a murderer and was also nearly murdered by Pharoah as an infant because of jealousy over the Israelites. This man, he used to deliver the Israelites from the hand of the Egyptians? GOD CAN USE ANYONE, ANYWHERE, ANY WAY THAT HE WANTS TO. (Isaiah 5:20-23)

We judge others as if we have a righteousness that comes from ourselves. We have no righteousness of our own fruition. ALL have fallen short of the Glory of God, the writer of this article very much included among the unrighteous of his own fruition. All righteousness comes from God alone. (Romans 2:1, Romans 3:21-23)

We make the Word of God of no effect on our lives by rejecting its application to our lives & principles. Instead, we have taken it upon ourselves to build a nation, in our image, beating our chests in arrogance to the achievements that we have built with our own hands. We worship the idols of silver and gold (money). (Mark 7:6-9)

We divide ourselves, thinking that each of us has a better answer, and make ourselves easier to conquer. Through the politicization of our ideas, we don’t even speak to each other in a manner that is worthy of the presence of God. United We Stand. Divided We Fall. The only answers that will heal our nation are found in the one book that most of us refuse to read for ourselves. (Mark 3:24-25)

A Call To Repentance

America has two options.

Either we continue the way that we have been, rejecting the Word of God in our own personal lives, which makes it impossible for this Word to make it to the foundations of our nation. This will bring about the same demise that it has brought to every other nation throughout the history of the world, regardless of how strong they grew themselves to be.

OR we repent, first on a personal level, seeking to look internally to find the things in our lives that are out of alignment with the Word of God, and bring them into alignment. Then we start looking to help our family and friends do the same, our communities, and our government. This is the only way to escape the coming judgment that is coming into the world and to truly live up to the principles that were set in our founding document.

The title of this message was inspired by a portion of a sermon that TD Jakes gave and was sent to me by my wife. You can watch this video at this link (14m39s).

TD Jakes is right. God has allowed this pandemic to give everyone on Earth the opportunity to reflect, grow closer to God, and repent of our own ways.

A Call to unity

This message is first for the body of Christ, which has itself allowed demoninational doctrine, racial bigotry, & socioeconomic classifications to separate us from the call of God, and for our nation to unify. The Bible says that the world will know that we are His disciples if we love one another (John 13:35), we haven’t even perfected this amongst ourselves! If we can’t be a living example to the world of love and unity, how can we expect others to follow suit?

This unity must first be led by the unification of the church. Then, us being led by this love and unity, need to help show the power of unity in Christ to the world that they may be drawn to it by the power of God.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Ephesians 4: 1-6 NKJV

It is secondly a call to our nation. We have to put aside our differences and seek common ground. We have to find True North again if we’re going to be able to bring about the real and lasting change that our founding documents & the Word of God demands from us.

Prayer for Healing

I ask all who are reading this article, regardless of faith, to pray this prayer out loud, in the unity of the Holy Spirit with me so that the power of God may be realized.

Father God, I pray that You would use the words of this message to reach Your children. That it would cause a spark of personal reflection & repentance, using Your Word as its judge, being led by Your Holy Spirit, to bring about the changes that we have not been able to make for ourselves.

God in Heaven, I ask that You would grant us repentance and forgiveness according to Your great mercy that we would find salvation in Your name and not of our own fruition.

Father, I ask that You would use this prayer, from Daniel chapter 9, which has been adapted for the nation that You gave us and use it to glorify Your name in the same way that You glorified Your name during Daniel’s time in captivity.

O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments, we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land.

O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day—to the men of America, to the inhabitants of the cities and towns You have given us all across the United States of America, those near and those far off in all the places to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.

O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our elected officials and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him. We have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.

Yes, all of the United States has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him. And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to us.

As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth. Therefore the Lord has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the Lord our God is righteous in all the works which He does, though we have not obeyed His voice.

And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people independence from the oppression of the King of England with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as it is this day—we have sinned, we have done wickedly!

O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your country the United States, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, The United States and Your people are a reproach to all those around us.

Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate. O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the country which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.

I pray that Your Name may be glorified in our nation and set apart amongst all the nations of the world so that Your children may have the everlasting peace and prosperity that You have purposed for Your people since the beginning of time.

It is in the mighty and merciful name of the Lord Jesus Christ that I pray and ask of You these things, Amen.
